Russia has launched an information and psychological campaign aimed at preparing its population for a potential war with NATO — a stage now referred to as “Phase 0,” according to the latest analysis from the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
ISW reports that this campaign is being intensified through both overt and covert hostile actions against NATO member states. These include false flag operations, sabotage missions, electronic warfare, GPS interference, acts of arson, and airspace incursions.
“This pattern of coordinated activity indicates that Russia has entered the initial stage — ‘Phase 0’ — of preparations for a broader conflict, potentially including a future NATO–Russia war,” the analysis states.
The report also notes that these activities are designed to “create the conditions to justify and rally public support for possible future Russian aggression against NATO.” The potential timeline for such escalation remains unclear.
Meanwhile, Denmark’s Defence Intelligence Service (FE) released a new assessment on Friday, warning that Russia is currently conducting a hybrid war against NATO and Western countries. FE considers the threat of sabotage against the Danish Armed Forces to be high. However, Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) emphasized that there is no current threat of direct military attack on Denmark.
