Cinematographer Bo Tengberg, is working on a documentary about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Among those reporting on the project are Komsomolskaya Pravda, Life.ru, and the news agency RBC, all of which point out that the Danish Film Institute (DFI) provided 190,000 kroner in development funding for the project in 2024.
These outlets have also drawn attention to the fact that Tengberg previously received an award from Zelensky.
Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, senior researcher Flemming Splidsboel Hansen from the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) said he believes Russian media — including Komsomolskaya Pravda, which he describes as “Putin’s favorite newspaper” — are using the story in an attempt to undermine both Zelensky and Mette Frederiksen internationally.
“They can hope to plant the idea that personal relationships and interests are what explain the project. And in that way, it’s beneficial for the Russians,” he told Ekstra Bladet.
