The government has decided to raise the alert level for the energy sector to orange – the second highest level on the scale.
The sector alert consists of five levels: white, green, yellow, orange and red. Under normal conditions, the level is white. An orange level marks a “high threat”, while red is the highest level and denotes a “very high threat”.
In May, the level was raised to yellow, which corresponds to a medium threat assessment. The last time the energy sector was put in orange was in September 2022, when the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was blown up, causing a massive methane leak.
Tightening of security
Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M) confirms the decision:
– We have raised the sector alert level for the energy sector to orange, which is the second highest level, he tells Ritzau.
The decision is based on an overall assessment of the threat landscape against Denmark, which assesses a risk of attack or disruption of the energy supply.
The higher preparedness level tightens the security requirements for energy facilities. This means, among other things, more surveillance and tighter access control to the critical energy infrastructure.
